If you are American living in Japan,and if you have Japanese VISA, you can make JP Bank(Yuucho Bank) account easily more than any other Japanese banks. This bank is conpatible with many American banks.so you can withdraw money from your American bank at JP Bank ATM Machine.

If you are US military person living in Japan,you can make Bank of Yokohama's account easily more than any other Japanese banks. But not all branch available. Only Zama branch (near the camp zama) and Ayase branch (near the atsugi base) have special rule for US military guys to make new bank account. When you visit their branch,you need to prepare following documents. 1. PoBox info. 2. Certificate of signature. 3. at bank of yokohama, you has to make the FATCA paperworks. 4. Military ID 5.
